Hi, I’m lou Baker.
Reg mBACP SMHL
So who am I?
I am a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor, committed to fostering a compassionate, collaborative, and inclusive therapeutic environment. With more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field, my approach is rooted in the belief that every individual holds the potential for growth and self-awareness. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities to tailor support that meets each client’s unique needs
How it began.
I have personal experience in my childhood of challenging times and trauma and I have been seen as a supportive role to others because of this for most of my life and career. I have been described as a creative, quirky, sensitive individual and it was this perfect storm that led me to train in Counselling in 2000.
I have extensive experience working with young people and adults, with a focus on therapy for women and girls, supporting them through a wide range of emotional, relational and psychological challenges such as anxiety, trauma, bereavement, self esteem and life transitions; puberty, perimenopause and menopause.
Alongside my counselling practice I have developed and managed mental health services in educational settings, with a strong focus on accessibility, early intervention and holistic care. I continue to work in education and other organisations.
As a Clinical Counselling Supervisor, I work with trainee, qualified counsellors and other professional services such as NHS and teachers, offering reflective, supportive and ethically grounded supervision. I am passionate about nurturing professional growth and helping practitioners build confidence and resilience in their work.
My approach is warm, relational and trauma informed and I remain deeply committed to fostering mental wellbeing, empowerment and connection at every stage of the therapeutic and supervisory journey.
I have a special focus on supporting women and girls. I offer a calm, compassionate space where you can be heard without judgment. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, low self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, or the impact of past experiences, I'm here to walk alongside you.
My approach is grounded in person-centred values, which means I believe in your ability to grow and make sense of your life in your own way. I work integratively, drawing from different therapeutic models to best suit your needs—but always with the relationship at the heart of our work.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone—therapy can be a space just for you.
